Starting preschool is an exciting milestone - for both children and parents! At Fame Preschool, we understand that the first day can bring a mix of emotions: excitement, curiosity, and sometimes a few nerves. With a little preparation and reassurance, your child’s first experience can be calm, joyful, and full of confidence.
Talk about what to expect
In the days leading up to their first day, talk to your child about what preschool is like. Use positive language - tell them about the fun activities, new friends, and kind teachers they’ll meet. Reading picture books about starting preschool can also help them imagine what their day will be like.
Visit together before the big day
We always encourage families to visit our preschool before starting. This helps children become familiar with the environment - where they’ll put their bag, play outside, and meet teachers. Familiarity builds comfort and reduces those “first-day jitters.”
Bring something from home
A small comfort item - like a sleep comforter or family photo - can make a big difference. It helps your child feel connected to home while they explore new surroundings.
Keep goodbyes calm and positive
Saying goodbye can be emotional. Keep your goodbye routine short and cheerful, and remind your child that you’ll be back to pick them up soon. Children pick up on your emotions - a confident wave and a smile tell them they’re safe to enjoy their day.
Trust the process
It’s normal for some children to take a few days (or weeks) to fully settle in. Our teachers are experienced in helping children feel comfortable, supported, and excited to learn. Within no time, your child will be running through the gate with a smile!
At Fame Preschool, we’re here to make your family’s transition to preschool a happy and memorable one.
