5 Fun Family Activities Around Stanmore Bay

One of the things we love most about being part of the Whangaparāoa community is how many wonderful places there are for families to explore together. Whether it’s playtime by the sea, discovering local wildlife, or enjoying a creative afternoon, Stanmore Bay offers endless ways to make family memories.

Here are five of our favourite local spots to enjoy with your preschooler:

Stanmore Bay Beach

Just minutes from Fame Preschool, this calm, sandy beach is perfect for young children. Bring a bucket and spade, splash in the shallows, and enjoy a seaside picnic. It’s a wonderful way to encourage sensory play and connect with nature.

Stanmore Bay Leisure Centre – Playground, Splash Pad & Skate Park

Right next to the Leisure Centre, this family-friendly area is a favourite with local parents.

  • The playground offers climbing frames, swings, and slides ideal for preschoolers.

  • The splash pad operates in the warmer months and is a hit on sunny days - perfect for cooling off while having water play fun.

  • For older siblings, the skate park nearby provides plenty of space for scooters and skateboards, making it a great outing for the whole family.

There’s also plenty of parking, grassy picnic areas, and toilets on site - making it a stress-free, all-day outing spot.

Alice Eaves Scenic Reserve

A short drive away, this peaceful walking track offers towering trees, native birds, and a gentle path perfect for little legs. Exploring nature together encourages curiosity and teaches children to notice the world around them.

Whangaparāoa Library Storytimes

Located inside the Whangaparāoa Town Centre, the Whangaparāoa Library hosts free weekly Storytime and Wriggle & Rhyme sessions for young children.

  • Storytime sessions are usually held on Tuesdays at 10:30am, featuring songs, stories, and interactive fun.

  • Wriggle & Rhyme sessions are ideal for babies and toddlers, helping develop early literacy and motor skills.

It’s a fantastic way to introduce your child to books and connect with other local families. (You can check session times on the Auckland Libraries website.)

Creative afternoons at home

After a busy morning out, try some simple creative play at home inspired by your adventures. Collect shells for a collage, draw your favourite playground, or make a “nature treasure box.”

At Fame Preschool, we believe learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door. Exploring our beautiful Hibiscus Coast together builds confidence, creativity, and strong family bonds.
