At Fame Preschool, we know that raising young children is both rewarding and challenging - and no one should have to do it alone. We’re lucky to be part of a caring Whangaparāoa and Hibiscus Coast community, with wonderful local organisations that support families in all kinds of ways.
Here are just a few local resources we recommend to families in our area:
Steps Forward
Website: www.stepsforward.co.nz
Steps Forward provides practical and emotional support for families in our community. Their services include family wellbeing programmes, counselling, parenting advice, and community education.
They also work with local schools and early childhood centres to help strengthen family relationships and build resilience. Support is free and confidential, and the team is known for their friendly, understanding approach.
Plunket – Whangaparāoa
Website: www.plunket.org.nz
Plunket offers free health and development checks, parenting advice, and new parent groups. The Whangaparāoa Plunket Clinic is an easy and familiar stop for local families. They also run Playgroups and Coffee Groups that are perfect for meeting other parents.
Whangaparāoa Library & Community Hub
Website: Auckland Libraries - Whangaparāoa Branch
Beyond books and storytime, the library regularly hosts family workshops, school holiday programmes, and community meet-ups. It’s a welcoming space for parents to connect and for children to develop a love of learning.
Coast Youth Community Trust (CYC)
Website: www.cyctrust.org.nz
CYC supports young people and families across the Hibiscus Coast with mentoring, youth development programmes, and community events.
For families with older children or teens, CYC offers safe spaces, leadership opportunities, and wellbeing support. Their focus is on empowering young people and strengthening family and community connections.
Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Trust NZ
Website: www.grg.org.nz
Many children on the Hibiscus Coast are lovingly cared for by grandparents or extended whānau. The Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Trust NZ provides practical advice, financial guidance, and emotional support to kin carers throughout New Zealand.
They offer a free helpline, online resources, and local support groups — including services in the wider Auckland region. Whether you’re just starting your caregiving journey or have been raising your grandchildren for years, GRG provides a warm, understanding community that truly gets it.
Coast Families Facebook Groups
Connecting online with other local parents is a great way to find playdates, share advice, and hear about community events. Popular local groups include:
Hibiscus Coast Mums
Whangaparāoa Community Page
Hibiscus Coast Buy/Sell/Swap (for second-hand children’s items)
At Fame Preschool, we’re proud to be part of a community that values connection, wellbeing, and family support. If you’d like help finding local resources or want to talk about your child’s transition to preschool, our team is always happy to chat.
